The collapse of the Soviet Union and decades of war between Armenia and Azerbaijan has destroyed the region’s economy. With the hope of economic renewal, Azerbaijan’s government decides to invest in a new railroad that will connect Europe and Asia. Through breathtaking imagery, Martin DiCicco’s mesmerising debut follows Azerbaijani railway workers laying the tracks; while across the border in Armenia, a lonely stationmaster waits more than 20 years for the return of the trains. We see the men at work as they wait and dream, trying to suppress regret and fear by connecting with one another and with the hope of a better future.
