Long Strange Trip

At last the Grateful Dead have the documentary they deserve. Directed by Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story) and with Martin Scorsese as executive producer, this is a lovingly meticulous account of the life and times of the countercultural avatars, masters of psychedelic jamming, and kings of the road. The freewheeling film tells the story of bandleader Jerry Garcia’s childhood, the band’s formation on the San Francisco scene in the ’60s, their endless tours in the decades after, Garcia’s tragic death in 1995, and beyond. Long Strange Trip is a colourful, music- saturated epic that will enthral Deadheads – and for the uninitiated, it will be a gateway drug to loving one of the most influential bands ever.
