The Latin American class divide is set in stark relief in Maids and Bosses, a film which takes a closer look at the relationships between live-in maids and their employers. Living under the same roof they nonetheless exist worlds apart, and the film deftly traverses this divide and highlights the two worlds in their at times awkward co-existence. Maids express their hopes and fears, while the employers confess to camera their ongoing frustrations with the ‘hired help’. These intimate personal stories echo the broader socio-economic issues facing Latin America, while filmmaker Abner Benaim’s light touch still leaves room for moments of humour to surface.
