China is the world’s largest importer of plastic waste. Throughout the country, there are nearly 30 towns engaged in processing this refuse in highly toxic environments. Plastic China follows the stories of two families who work and live in a recycling facility, focusing on Yi Jie, a feisty, and optimistic 11-year-old girl who works alongside her parents while dreaming of attending school. This award-winning documentary movingly reveals the direct impact this waste industry has on families; and reminds us that while we may not see it, our own actions can have an effect on people living thousands of kilometres away.
