The Dark Matter of Love follows Masha, an 11-year-old from a bleak orphanage in Arkhangelsk, Russia, as she prepares for a new life. Together with twin brothers, Masha, she has been adopted by the Diaz family from Wisconsin. Having been raised by the state, Masha has difficulty expressing emotions and struggles to let her internal walls down to her new family. The key question, as asked by one doctor, is, “Can orphans who’ve had no affection at all learn to love?” Director Sarah McCarthy examines the importance of the love of a family, guiding us through an emotional rollercoaster as we watch the Diaz family try to find a new kind of normal.
