The Gleaners & I is Varda’s widely celebrated exploration of those who fossick at the fringes of our existence. Picking over the discarded items of the rest of the world, the gleaners invite reflection on modern life. This warm, funny, inventive documentary is a diary and essay on poverty, and an examination of thrift and the curious place of scavenging in French history and culture. This screening will be preceded by an introduction by Dr Anne Rutherford.
