The “I” Does Not Exist Alone: Panel Discussion
Personal filmmaking has historically tended to be a movement away from the political. However, when politics is defined as encompassing ‘everything’, this can paradoxically mean that nothing has significant political weight. In this particular historical moment, the personal can’t help but be political, but only when engaged with rigorously, humbly and critically. Directors Agostino Ferrente (Selfie), Rachel Leah Jones (Advocate), and Beniamino Barrese (The Disappearance of My Mother), whose films address this question in exciting and distinct ways, will discuss their approach to personal filmmaking.
