In his own words, 32-year-old Danny Houck is ‘a nobody’. He lives in a ramshackle farmhouse in backwater Ohio; he has no job, no money, no prospects. But he does have an obsession: violins. When he ‘meets’ violin virtuoso Razvan Stoica on Facebook, he makes a rash fanboy promise to create a perfect replica of a world-famous violin, Guarneri’s Il Cannone, for Stoica’s next concert – with no idea if he can pull it off. Danny’s never had any training, so his ‘technique’ is equal parts internet research, trial and error, and mania. Fighting time, poverty, and most of all himself, Danny puts everything on the line for one shot at glory.
