Marusya is 16 and like a worrying number of young people her age, is determined to end her life. In this “depressed Russia”, governed by an oligarchy keen to bring its nationalist dream to fruition, millennial suicides are omnipresent. Then, she meets her soulmate, a young man named Kimi; whilst friends continue to sink into despair, Marusya and Kimi hold on to each other. Young and intelligent, they read and argue, listen to music and raise cats. Marusya Syroechkovskaya has signed a debut film of incredible strength. With gritty cinematography and rhythmic editing that threads together countless of her own home movies, she depicts the bubble of her life with her partner, up until reality found its way inside. One last love letter for Kimi, devoured by life; a rebellious cry from the heart, a homage to a silenced generation.
