Australian Shorts Competition: Session Two

The Best Australian Short Documentary Competition highlights the best documentary short films from across the country with a runtime of 30 minutes or less. Antenna has partnered with the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) to offer the winning filmmaker a cash prize of $5,000 as development funding for their next project.

exploration of contemporary digital culture. A montage of
moments from live streams are poetically strung together, as if
from the perspective of an artificial intelligence, roaming
through people’s consciousnesses.

THE GREY LINE

Taken from her parents under assimilation policy, Helen was
raised by a middle-class family in the suburbs of Perth and
believed she was their biological daughter until the age of 14.

SALT DREAMS
Madeleine Mytkowski | Australia | 2023 | 13 min

A race car driver must confront his past to pursue his dreams. In
this affecting docu-drama, we meet a race car driver attempting
to reconcile his past and present self. A portrait of familial love
and its innate ambiguities.

SURVEILLING A CRIME SCENE
Alana Hunt | Australia | 2023 | 22 min

Surveilling a Crime Scene examines the materialisation of
non-indigenous life in Miriwoong Country—through the town of
Kununurra and its surrounds.

MEMORABILIA
Rowena Potts and Ceridwen Dovey | Australia | 2023 | 16 min

A daughter mourns the loss of her father, a passionate collector
of space memorabilia, as she falls under the sway of the ‘flown’
space objects in her inheritance. Memorabilia was imagined and
created during co-directors Ceridwen Dovey and Rowena Potts’
tenure as Powerhouse Research Fellows in 2022.
