In 2022, workers at an Amazon warehouse in Staten Island, sick and tired of the lack of job stability from a company notorious for constant worker turnover, made national headlines after the newly formed Amazon Labour Union (ALU) voted to unionise. Filmmakers Brett Story and Stephen Maing follow the day-to-day struggles of the ALU, made up of current and former employees, including charismatic leader Chris Smalls, and capture the events that led to this remarkable historical moment. Celebrating solidarity while acknowledging the difficult decisions and internal conflicts inherent in collective action, Union serves as an immersive portrait of the realities of building power for working people in the 21st century. An epic drama portrayed with human detail and a sober eye.
