We Are Jeni

Mariel Thomas, Akhim Dev | Australia | 2025 | 100 min

Dr Jeni Haynes’ childhood mind and body are a crime scene and her memories are fractured across 2,500 alternate personalities. Diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder, Jeni’s mind becomes the battleground for justice. A choir of voices. A fortress of selves. And when the time came to seek justice, she brought them all. As Detective Paul Stamoulis leads a decade-long investigation to validate her accounts of unspeakable abuse, one question remains: can a woman whose testimony comes from multiple selves ever be believed? Together with psychiatrist Dr. George Blair-West, Stamoulis built a case that would make legal history. They argued that Jeni’s condition wasn’t a barrier to truth — it was the mechanism that preserved it. It’s a story that unfolds like a mystery of the mind, revealing layer after layer of trauma, resilience, and radical self-preservation.

The first screenings will be followed by a Q&A with directors and festival guests Mariel Thomas, Akhim Dev.
