We Are The Thousand

In 2015 a marine biologist with a passion for rock music convinced a thousand musicians from across Italy to gather to play a Foo Fighters song together. Fabio Zaffagnini’s aim was to convince Dave Grohl to come play in his hometown, which never drew in big names. After a year of fundraising, searching for musicians and rehearsals Fabio found himself atop a tower of scaffolding, in front of a thousand guitarists, drummers and vocalists performing “Learn to Fly”. This exciting performance was uploaded to YouTube. Forty-five million views later, they had Grohl’s attention. But for the Rockin’1000, this was only the beginning. Winner of Audience Awards at both SXSW and Hot Docs, We Are the Thousand is a joyful, heartwarming celebration of the shared power of (live) music.
