Your Turn

Eliza Capai | Brazil | 2019 | 93 min

As Brazil’s economic and social crisis deepened over the last decade, students protested and occupied hundreds of schools, demanding better public education and the end of austerity measures. This energetic documentary depicts the student movement from the protests of 2013 to the election of extreme right-wing president, Jair Bolsonaro, in 2018. Inspired by the collective voice of the movement itself, the fast-paced collage-like documentary follows three students who also act as highly-compelling narrators, each highlighting central points of the cause. Building a picture of youthful optimism, Your Turn gives voice to the movement’s multiple perspectives, raising the many issues young people are concerned about and asking the question: who writes history and how should it be recorded?
